Fun, Entertainment, luxury, choicest cuisine on a floating hotel!!
For the discerning traveler, there are so many holiday options available now. Amongst them, the theme that is picking up in a big way with Indians is Cruise Tourism.
Cruise ships are large passenger ships with a plethora of restaurants, entertainment activities, recreation places, kids areas, and casinos. These ships are like floating 5-star hotels with rooms on the cruise ships called staterooms.
In India, cruise ships mainly start from Mumbai and currently, there is Cordelia Cruises starting from Mumbai. In fact, there is now a proposal to develop an International Cruise Terminal in Mumbai to allow more ships to dock.
From an Indian perspective, the first introduction to cruising was via the cruises of the Genting Lines that had cruises from Singapore and Malaysia. They have been extremely popular among honeymooners, senior citizen groups, and corporates for the last decade or more.
Cruises in Europe, especially those on the rivers of Europe or those in the Aegean Sea (Greece and Turkey), are also quite popular.
Antarctica – the Frozen Continent – has also opened for limited tourism via cruise ships. There are a few companies offering cruise itineraries to this seventh continent. And even though the cost is high, there are a large number of Indians going on these super adventurous holidays.
Cruises in the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Mexico start from ports in the USA and are slowly gaining in popularity with Indian tourists.
Another upcoming sector is cruising close to the Arctic Circle and cruising through the stunning scenery of the fjords of Norway. These cruises also give you a chance to view the Aurora Borealis!
